GCMU is a mission-driven company fully owned by the GCMU Governing Council, an independent 501(c)(3) with a mission to promote robust and fair practices in carbon markets.  The Governing Council’s oversight ensures that the GCMU acts as a public utility that prioritises climate impact over profit. 

GCMU is focused on providing public market infrastructure that enables the transformation and scaling of the carbon market. We will operate a financially sustainable business model that is guided by the overriding goal of maximising climate impact over maximising profits for GCMU or our shareholders.

GCMU is focused on closing a critical market gap—namely, the absence of public-purpose market infrastructure which serves as a single, trusted source of truth for the legal title and ownership of carbon credits. We are engaging crediting programmes and registry service providers to complement the services they offer to the carbon market.
